What is Group Therapy?

Group therapy is a type of psychotherapy that involves one or more therapist working with several people at the same time. This type of therapy is widely available at a variety of locations, including private therapeutic practices such as Bald Mountain Behavioral Medicine, hospitals, mental health inpatient treatment facilities, and community centers. Group therapy is sometimes used alone, but it is also commonly integrated into a comprehensive treatment plan that also includes individual therapy and medication.

Therapy groups offered:

  • Addiction/Substance Abuse
  • “An Owner’s Manual to Raising Teenage Girls”
  • Grief & Loss

Addiction/Substance Abuse

Please call for dates and times.

This group is designed to help those in need with their chemical or alcohol addiction. The structure of the group is one of interpersonal learning and change. The aim is to help members understand the effects of their behaviors on others and in turn how the behavior of others affects themselves. The primary task of the group is the emphasis on interpersonal relationships. Interaction among group members is considered the cornerstone of treatment. In theory, this group exists as a social microcosm. If someone is capable of change in this microcosm then perhaps they are capable of change in the world.

An Owner’s Manual to Raising Teenage Girls

Meeting every Tuesday evening from 6:45 – 7:45. Please call for availability.

Everything that you wanted to know but were afraid to ask! A series of parent discussion workshops for parents, grandparents, and stepparents of girls ages 11-17.

Grief & Loss

Please call for dates and times.

While support groups are not comfortable for everyone, many bereaved people attest to the assistance and comfort they have received from attending a group. Ideally, a bereavement support group will offer a relaxed, confidential place to talk about thoughts or memories of your loved one, and about how you have been affected by the loss of this special person in your life.
